The town is located in the Leonida Grassrivers, an area inspired by the real Florida Everglades.

Watson Bay itself appears to be influenced by Cedar Key, Florida.

The town was revealed in an official screenshot of the Grassrivers, which was published alongside the release of Trailer 2.

In the shot of the town, the Bite House restaurant can be seen by the water.

It is possible that the name Watson Bay comes from the serial killer Edgar Watson, who lived near the Everglades National Park.
