A new map to explore is one of the most exciting aspects of a brand-new Grand Theft Auto – but what does the GTA 6 map look like?

So far, Rockstar Games hasn’t been very forthcoming with information regarding the Grand Theft Auto 6 map. That’s to be expected, of course, as we’ve only seen a single trailer for the upcoming title so far.

However, despite a lack of information, we already know some details that could reveal what the GTA 6 map may look like on release day.

What We Know

The Leaks

Despite Rockstar Games not revealing the GTA 6 map officially, some dedicated fans have been working hard to piece together exactly what the state of Leonida and the new Vice City will look like.

Perhaps the most impressive of these is the Vice City Mapping Project by DuPz0r and the GTA Mapping community:

We highly recommend checking out the full map leak over on the Mapping Vice City website, as you can zoom in closer on key areas and watch as the map is updated in real-time.

Using leaked co-ordinates for various locations across the map, the mappers have worked out that the GTA 6 map is set to be twice as large as GTA 5’s Los Santos.

In fact, you can even overlay Los Santos over the GTA 6 map to showcase just how huge it is!

Like in GTA 5, it appears that GTA 6 will have a dedicated city location at one end of the map, as well as a beautiful and varied environment to explore across the island.

However, it looks like there’s more than just the main hub of Vice City itself when it comes to residential areas in GTA 6!

As for how accurate this leak will end up being, only time will tell. But it’s worth pointing out that mappers were able to accurately create a draft of the GTA 5 map prior to its release that ended up being very similar to the real thing:

Trailer Details

In the official GTA 6 Trailer 1, we can see a series of spectacular views of Vice City and its surrounding area, which give us a better look at the upcoming map.

The trailer opens with a view of the city from one of its sandy beaches, which appear to be on the island’s east coast, overlooking Vice City.

From the iconic balcony party shot, we can glimpse just how sprawling the city is, with buildings in the distance barely visible.

What’s amazing is, when compared to the full size of the map leaks above, Vice City itself is relatively small! The scale of GTA 6 is not to be underestimated, it seems.

The trailer reveals that the GTA 6 map is actually a series of interconnected islands.

On the southern end of the playable area, a series of bridges connect the landmasses together, and it appears that one bridge is still under construction.

This is visible in the map leak, in an area labeled Gator Keys. Those in the know may recognize Gator Keys (inspired by Florida Keys), as being supposed cut content from the original Vice City game!

But it’s not all clear waters that players can look forward to splashing around in. As Leonida is based on Florida, there are sure to be some swampland and muddy areas to explore too.

In fact, the Thrillbilly Mud Club appears to be based on real-world locations such as the Redneck Mud Park.

Vice City Legacy

Of course, fans who played Grand Theft Auto: Vice City may already feel like they know what to expect!

The highly-anticipated sixth mainline entry in the GTA series is returning to one of the franchise’s best locations, after all.

But things have changed a bit since we were last here! Just take a look at this side-by-side comparison of the original GTA: Vice City map, compared to the predicted map of GTA 6’s Vice City.

What’s particularly notable, besides the added detail and tremendous scale of GTA 6, is that the new map much more closely resembles Miami, the real-world inspiration for Vice City.

Although the locations aren’t identical, we certainly see some added similarities, such as the Venetian Islands, Fisher Island, and even the likes of Dodge Island and Virginia Key.

We’re sure that several areas of Florida will be referenced throughout the GTA 6 map, and we can’t wait to see more of what’s available to explore.

For now, Rockstar Games has yet to reveal much of the north side of the map.

But when GTA 6 Trailer 2 drops later this year, we anticipate we’ll get a more detailed look at the playable area and what we can expect from the map on launch day.
