There’s been some debate among fans as to whether or not GTA 6 was delayed during Take-Two Interactive’s recent earnings call.

Yesterday, we finally got a release window for Rockstar Games’ GTA 6.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of parent company Take-Two Interactive, confirmed the news personally, announcing that GTA 6 will release in Fall 2025.

Therefore, fans can expect a release date between September and November 2025. But is this a delay, and why are some fans treating it as such?

Is GTA 6 Officially Delayed?

No, GTA 6 isn’t officially delayed, as its release date was only ever scheduled for ‘2025.’

Therefore, the announcement that the game will drop in Fall 2025 is simply a narrowing down of the release window, not a delay of any kind.

At least, that’s the official word. But actually, there is some evidence to suggest that GTA 6 has been delayed, at least internally.

Evidence for an Internal Delay

The reason that we believe GTA 6 was likely delayed internally from an early 2025 release date is that all signs initially pointed to an early 2025 release date.

For a start, last year’s May 2023 earnings call for Take-Two Interactive revealed a staggering expectation of $8 billion in Net Bookings for Fiscal Year 2025, which runs from April 1, 2024-March 31, 2025.

In that time, Take-Two boasted that it planned to deliver ‘several groundbreaking titles,’ and after the reveal of Trailer 1, it became clear that GTA 6 was one of them.

However, in yesterday’s earnings call just one year later, the Take-Two CEO admitted that Net Bookings for Fiscal 2025 would actually be closer to $5.55-5.65 billion.

“As we enter Fiscal 2025 with positive momentum, we expect to deliver Net Bookings of $5.55 to $5.65 billion,” said CEO Strauss Zelnick. “Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI.”

Considering that’s a drop of almost $2.5 billion compared to the initial estimation, it’s clear something big is missing from the schedule.

And given Zelnick’s phrasing, it’s certain that the Net Booking prediction is no longer accounting for GTA 6.

After all, the upcoming title is the follow-up to Grand Theft Auto 5, AKA the fastest-selling entertainment product of all time, which achieved $1 billion in revenue within three days on sale.

So while no, GTA 6 wasn’t ever delayed from Rockstar Games firm ‘2025’ release date, it likely has seen an internal delay from early 2025 to Fall of the same year.

And the good news is, Take-Two is very unlikely to delay GTA 6 again!
