GTA 6 is finally dropping in 2025, but which platforms will the game arrive on when it hits store shelves?

Back in December 2023, Rockstar Games finally unveiled our first look at Grand Theft Auto 6 and it was everything we’d been hoping for.

However, the developer also revealed that the game wouldn’t be coming to every platform, at least not on launch day.

GTA 6 Platforms Confirmed

GTA 6 will release exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in 2025.

This was confirmed in a Rockstar Games Press Release via Business Wire, which indicates that the two current-gen consoles will be the only way to play the new Grand Theft Auto on release day.

No mention of PC launch in GTA 6 press release

Unfortunately, there is no mention of a PC release at this point in time, though Rockstar has a habit of dropping a PC port later down the line. For now though, there’s no confirmation that one is indeed on the way.

Also, GTA 6 is not coming to last-gen platforms such as the PS4 and Xbox One, and it should come as no surprise that it will not arrive on the Nintendo Switch.

Will GTA 6 Be On PS5?

Yes, GTA 6 will come to PS5 in 2025.

This was confirmed by Rockstar Games during the game’s official announcement.

PS5 owners will be able to play the upcoming Grand Theft Auto title on day one, given that it’s one of the game’s launch platforms.

And if rumors are true, the soon-to-be-revealed PS5 Pro may be the best way to play GTA 6!

What About PS4?

No, GTA 6 will not be coming to PS4.

This is likely because the game, which looks to push the boundaries of what’s achievable in such an immersive open-world, would be unable to run on the older hardware without significant downgrades.

Unfortunately, those that are yet to upgrade to a current-gen console will not be able to play GTA 6.

Will GTA 6 Be On Xbox Series X/S?

Yes, GTA 6 will launch on both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles in 2025.

Both consoles appeared in Rockstar Games’ official press announcement, which dropped alongside the game’s reveal trailer.

While Series X owners will likely get the best possible GTA 6 experience, those on Series S should expect some minor downgrades.

In order to run GTA 6, the budget-friendly console may have to offer reduced graphical fidelity, NPC density, or even a lower frame rate.

What About Xbox One?

No, GTA 6 will not be coming to Xbox One.

Despite the minor difference between the last-gen Xbox One X and the current-gen Xbox Series S, Rockstar Games will not bring GTA 6 to the older hardware.

Those who want to get their hands on the newest Grand Theft Auto will need to ensure they’re playing on the latest hardware.

Will GTA 6 Come to Nintendo Switch?

No, GTA 6 will not come to Nintendo Switch.

Given that the game isn’t available on PS4 or Xbox One, two last-gen consoles with higher specs than Nintendo’s portable console, it should come as no surprise that GTA 6 won’t arrive on Switch.

Rockstar Games recently brought Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition to Switch consoles, suggesting that it’s not counting out Nintendo forever.

However, unless the Switch 2 comes with a major upgrade over its predecessor, even getting GTA 5 to run on the system would prove a challenge.

When’s the PC Port Coming Out?

Although GTA 6 is not yet confirmed for PC, we expect the game to arrive on the platform later down the line.

However, judging by Rockstar’s history, the most likely release date for GTA 6 on PC is 2026 – one full year after the game’s release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar pattern, first launching on console before dropping on PC the following year.

We’ve created a table of the initial release dates for Rockstar’s previous games and when they launched for PC so you can see the time difference between them:
