A disappointing new report could indicate that Rockstar Games no longer targets early 2025 for the GTA 6 launch, and fans are not happy.

If you’re not caught up on the recent GTA 6 delay drama, here’s a quick summary of the last week of news:

Gaming news site Kotaku released a new report, stating that while GTA 6 was planned for an early 2025 release, several Rockstar Games employees were worried about the game falling behind. In this article, Kotaku stated that it is ‘becoming more and more likely that the sequel might not land until late 2025,’ or even 2026.

After fans began to tear into Kotaku for delivering this news, Insider Gaming struck back with its own sources, calling the GTA 6 delay ‘pure conjecture.’

But now, despite the outcry, Kotaku is back with further clarification, and it’s not positive.

Kotaku Doubles Down: GTA 6 Targeting Fall 2025

In an update to its initial report, Kotaku claims that it has now heard from even more sources that GTA 6 will release later in the year.

“Kotaku has heard from more sources that while early 2025 was at one point possible, it’s no longer the target for Grand Theft Auto VI’s launch.”

Instead, the majority of the site’s sources are now reporting that Rockstar is targeting a Fall 2025 release, with most of those sources being confident in achieving it.

UPDATE: It appears that Kotaku was correct, given that GTA 6 is now confirmed to release in Fall 2025!

However negatively fans take the news (and they most assuredly are not taking it well), the gaming site must feel confident enough to release this report.

But with multiple anonymous sources telling Kotaku the same thing, gamers should consider that there may well be some truth to the matter.

Unfortunately, when the gaming community is hyped for an upcoming project, it can get rather defensive.

It’s worth pointing out that every major Rockstar Games release in the last 20 years has been delayed.

Thinking that GTA 6 will somehow be different while being the company’s biggest game ever is perhaps a little too optimistic.

Was Early 2025 Ever on the Cards?

It’s important to note that Rockstar Games itself has never stated that early 2025 was the release window for GTA 6.

Instead, the developer has always held firm that the game would release next year, with no specifics released to the public.

However, many Grand Theft Auto fans believe that January – March is the time to watch, due to the fact that Rockstar parent company Take-Two Interactive expected record profits in Fiscal Year 2025.

The company also stated that it would be delivering ‘several groundbreaking titles‘ during the Fiscal Year, which ends in March 2025.

“We believe that we will enter our next phase of growth in Fiscal 2025, as we plan to deliver several groundbreaking titles that we anticipate will set new standards of quality and success and enable us to deliver over $8 billion in Net Bookings”

However, Take-Two has since tempered expectations, lowering its own profit estimations to $7 billion. This has already led some analysts to suggest that GTA 6 was pushed back to later in the year.

Of course, the only real confirmation fans can expect will come from Rockstar itself. We’ll keep you updated with the latest developments as they continue to arrive.
