Here’s what we know about the GTA 6’s price tag and how much the upcoming Grand Theft Auto title will cost.

GTA 6 is set to release in Fall 2025, but Rockstar Games has yet to officially reveal the game’s price.

However, we do know a few important things about the company’s history, gaming price trends, and statements made by parent company Take-Two Interactive.

GTA 6 Price Details

At the time of this article’s writing, Rockstar Games has not revealed how much GTA 6 will cost.

However, the game is expected to retail for $70, the current standard cost of AAA games.

CEO Strauss Zelnick recently commented on the upcoming title’s pricing during Take-Two’s Q4 2024 earnings call:

“Look, there’s more content constantly being made available, and we really aim to deliver great value at any given time,” the Take-Two Boss stated. “We’re so focused on delivering more value than what we charge.”

Final pricing information will likely become available when Grand Theft Auto 6 becomes available to pre-order, which we anticipate will be in early 2025.

Pre-orders for Rockstar Games titles tend to go live around four to six months prior to the games’ official release date.

We’ll update this article as soon as official pricing is revealed.

Rumors of GTA 6 Costing $100

One of the biggest rumors regarding the GTA 6 price is that the game could cost $100 or more. This comes after numerous outlets reported that Take-Two Interactive’s CEO believes that games should be priced by the hour.

However, that’s not quite accurate.

When asked by a Goldman Sachs analyst during Take-Two Interactive’s Q2 2023 earnings call what his views were on subscription pricing, CEO Strauss Zelnick actually stated that games are often good value for money.

“Our frontline prices are still very, very low because we offer many hours of engagement. The value of the engagement is very high. So, I think the industry, as a whole, offers a terrific price-to-value opportunity for consumers. That doesn’t necessarily mean that the industry has pricing power or wants to have pricing power.”

Furthermore, it could be suggested that Zelnick’s statement suggests the exact opposite of what was widely reported.

If anything, it appears that the CEO is happy to release GTA 6 for a regular AAA price, even despite it offering many hours of gameplay.

“It’s our strategy here to deliver much more value than what we charge consumers. It’s always been our strategy here.”

Considering that GTA 6 reportedly cost around $2 billion to develop, but Take-Two Interactive likely won’t struggle to get its money back.

After all, GTA 5 is still the fastest-selling entertainment product of all time, grossing $800 million in its very first day on sale, and hitting the $1 billion mark in just three days.

Special Editions

However, while GTA 6 isn’t likely to hit $100, despite what misleading statements online may have you believe, there almost certainly will be pricier editions of the game for fans to pick up.

Those who want to spend more of their hard-earned cash will likely be able to pick up a premium or collector’s edition of GTA 6. Nowadays, this is standard practice in the gaming industry, and we can see Rockstar’s most likely intended plan by looking at how it handled Red Dead Redemption 2.

When the long-awaited western sequel became available to pre-order, there were four versions available:

  • Standard Edition – $69.99
  • Special Edition – $79.99
    • World Map
    • Slipcover
    • Exclusive Mission and Hideout
    • Racehorse
    • Gameplay Boosts
    • Special Items & Free Weapons
    • Exclusive Outfit
Red Dead Redemption 2 Special Edition
  • Ultimate Edition – $99.99
    • All Special Edition Content
    • Online Bonuses
    • Exclusive Steelbook and Slipcover
Red Dead Redemption 2 Ultimate Edition
  • Collector’s Box – $99.99 (Game Not Included)
    • Metal Tithing Lockbox
    • Puzzle
    • Treasure Map
    • Pin Set & Pouch
    • Wheeler, Rawson and Co. Catalogue
    • Playing Cards
    • Bandana
    • Challenge Coin
    • Cigarette Cards
Red Dead Redemption 2 Collector's Box

Even before that, GTA 5 offered fans its own collector’s edition for an additional cost.

Back in 2013, when the most recent GTA title was released, the gaming industry didn’t tend to drop a handful of different special editions with each new game. However, some games would get the honor of their own collector’s edition, coming with a handful of extra goodies.

The Grand Theft Auto V Collector’s Edition offered players the base game and steelbook, as well as a blueprint map of San Andreas, a Los Santos snapback cap, and a security deposit bag with a key.

GTA 5 Collector's Edition

With that in mind, we expect GTA 6 to have several editions for fans to choose from. But the good news is, if you don’t care about some minor in-game content or inevitable GTA Online bonuses, you’re not missing much by just picking up the cheapest version.

However, recent trends that lock early access to a game behind a premium edition paywall are becoming increasingly common.

Although Rockstar hasn’t adopted that business model just yet, we could see it being introduced for a product as highly-anticipated as GTA 6…
