GTA 6 is set to be Rockstar Games’ most advanced title yet, and it needs to bring back one of Red Dead Redemption 2’s most memorable mechanics.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is a groundbreaking open-world title, and a true showcase of Rockstar Games’ development capabilities.

When you think about it, the game probably gives us an early look at just how insane the world of GTA 6 will be, assuming it takes inspiration from RDR2’s environments and mechanics.

But there’s one key feature that we need to see returning from Red Dead Redemption 2 in GTA 6, and it’s something of a hairy topic.

Bring Back Real-Time Hair Growth

One of the most memorable minor features in Red Dead Redemption 2 was Arthur Morgan’s beard mechanics.

Over time, our protagonist’s hair would grow out, allowing players to shave it into a variety of styles, or even keep a magnificent beard.

Not only does this add a new way for players to customize their protagonist, but it’s a nice reminder of the time you’ve spent in the world of Red Dead.

The process could also be sped up using hair tonics, should beard fans wish to restore their beautiful facial hair in a hurry.

What’s more, Arthur Morgan can also gain weight by eating too much, another feature that fans hope will return in the upcoming release. In fact, many are calling for GTA 6 to feature San Andreas’ fitness mechanic, which allows players to hit the gym and completely change their physique!

But while eating too much would actually change Morgan’s stats, giving him more health but reduced stamina, his beard was purely cosmetic. And frankly, it looked incredible.

Hair Mechanics in GTA

Of course, it’s not like no Grand Theft Auto game has ever featured the ability to grow a beard (many of them have!), but none have implemented such an advanced level of hair growth.

In the past, players would need to visit a barbershop in the game’s open world. They would then sit down, completely clean-shaven, and be able to walk away with their choice of facial hair, as though the barber had grafted it to their faces.

GTA 5 Protagonists With Beards

The GTA 5 protagonists also did feature minor levels of hair growth over time, but it was nowhere near Red Dead Redemption 2’s levels of realism back in 2013.

Now, fans are calling for GTA 6 to expand upon the magnificent beards of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Fans Demand Better Beards in GTA 6

Gamers are hoping that GTA 6 brings back the beard in a big way, giving at least the male protagonist Jason some real-time facial hair growth.

The mechanic could also be expanded to include both Lucia and Jason’s actual hairstyles, but it’s possible that this would trade fun for realism a little.

After all, it’s one thing to keep track of a character’s beard growth and a whole other matter to travel to a hairdresser every time your head hair gets a little long.

It’s clear that Rockstar is already paying a lot of attention to hair in Grand Theft Auto 6. Just look at these clips from the trailer and you’ll see examples of some of the developer’s finest work to date.

But whether this means that we’ll be able to grow out Lucia and Jason’s hair remains to be seen.

One fan has already made concept art for GTA 6’s dynamic hair growth and what it could look like:

So far, there’s no confirmation on whether or not Rockstar will bring back the beloved mechanic in GTA 6.

Still, we can only hope that character customization remains a priority when the game launches in 2025.
