It’s official, we’re now in Fiscal Year 2025, which means that GTA 6 could be less than a year away!

One of the most substantial hints at Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date comes from Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive itself.

Even before GTA 6’s reveal, the company was dropping hints at a massive financial year from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.

And although rumors of a delay are swirling, it’s completely possible that we’re currently less than a year away from the game’s release.

Why Is GTA 6 Potentially Releasing This Year?

In Take-Two Interactive’s May 2023 earnings call, during which the company shows investors what to expect from the years to come, Rockstar’s parent company had this to say:

“We believe that we will enter our next phase of growth in Fiscal 2025, as we plan to deliver several groundbreaking titles that we anticipate will set new standards of quality and success and enable us to deliver over $8 billion in Net Bookings”

Fans immediately picked up on such a massive figure, suggesting that this could be related to an upcoming title.

And when Grand Theft Auto 6 was officially announced for 2025, it seemed to many fans that this might be the reason for such lucrative profits.

Given that the Fiscal Year runs from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, some fans put two and two together, predicting an early 2025 launch for GTA 6.

But that might not be the case any longer…

Could GTA Be Pushed Back to Fiscal Year 2026?

There is some convincing evidence that points to GTA 6 being pushed back to Fiscal Year 2026.

Here’s a breakdown of all the recent hints that suggest the game may have been internally delayed:

The Earnings Call Decline

Firstly, in Take-Two’s most recent earnings call, the expectations have lowered for FY:25.

Now, the estimations for this year’s net bookings have dropped to $7 billion, and that substantial loss has led some analysts to suggest that GTA 6 has been delayed.

However, given that Rockstar is still reporting a 2025 release date, the game may have been pushed to later in the year, potentially releasing between April 1 and December 31, 2025.

Delay Rumors

Supporting this theory, gaming news site Kotaku recently published a controversial report that suggested that GTA 6 production was falling behind.

“Kotaku has learned that it’s becoming more and more likely that the sequel might not land until late 2025,” the report reads. “It’s also possible that it could even slip into 2026 as production reportedly falls behind.”

The latest statement from Kotaku indicates that Fall 2025 is currently the target for GTA 6’s launch.

Development Falling Behind

Trusted games journalist Jason Schreier also put out a statement on the game’s development recently saying:

“Of course development of the next Grand Theft Auto is falling behind. It always is.”

However, in his full report for Bloomberg, Schreier suggests that ‘video games are always behind schedule and risk getting delayed at any time.’

He also points out that nobody can state definitively when the game will be ready at this point in time, with development factors changing things at a moment’s notice.

Ultimately, there’s no way to tell whether or not GTA 6 will actually be released in the next year, other than for Rockstar Games to come out and announce it.

However, it seems clear that at least at one point in time, the game was scheduled for Fiscal Year 2025. And it’s not impossible that it could still hit that target, although practically every Rockstar release ends up being delayed.
