Rumors indicate that GTA 6 could have been delayed from its initial 2025 release date, but fans shouldn’t get too worried just yet.

It’s a tough wait for one of gaming’s most anticipated titles of all time, and that wait will only increase if the newest Grand Theft Auto game is delayed.

If you’re worried about the progress of the upcoming GTA title, never fear! We’ve compiled all the leaks and rumors about GTA 6’s so-called delays for you below:

Is GTA 6 Delayed?

No, GTA 6 has not been delayed from its officially stated Fall 2025 release date at this moment in time.

According to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, the game will be released in the Fall, placing its release between September and November 2025.

However, reports indicate that the game may have quietly been pushed back internally from its early 2025 release expectations.

Early predictions indicated that the newest Grand Theft Auto would release between January-March 2025. This was due to the fact that Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two Interactive predicted record profits of $8 billion for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY:25) during its May 2023 earnings call.

“We believe that we will enter our next phase of growth in Fiscal 2025, as we plan to deliver several groundbreaking titles that we anticipate will set new standards of quality and success and enable us to deliver over $8 billion in Net Bookings”

Given that the Fiscal Year runs from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025, some fans put two and two together, predicting an early 2025 launch for GTA 6.

Expectations Have Lowered for Take-Two

However, in the publisher’s most recent earnings call, the estimation for FY:25 has now lowered to $5.55-5.65 billion, a dramatic drop for the publisher.

“As we enter Fiscal 2025 with positive momentum, we expect to deliver Net Bookings of $5.55 to $5.65 billion,” said CEO Strauss Zelnick. “Our outlook reflects a narrowing of Rockstar Games’ previously established window of Calendar 2025 to Fall of Calendar 2025 for Grand Theft Auto VI.”

Given a dramatic drop of around $2.5 billion and taking Zelnick’s words into consideration, it’s clear that GTA 6 was initially planned to arrive in the 2025 Fiscal Year, which ends on March 31, 2025.

At least now we have a firm release window, placing GTA 6 between September – November 2025.

Rockstar Games Are Known for Delays

If GTA 6 is eventually delayed, it’ll hardly be a first for the franchise. In fact, as the most recent Grand Theft Auto release, GTA 5 was delayed from its initial ‘Spring 2013’ release date to September of the same year.

In fact, many of Rockstar Games’ projects have actually been delayed in recent history:

GameInitial Release DateActual Release DateDelay Length
GTA 5 Next-Gen (PS5/Xbox Series X)November 2021March 2022~4 Months
Red Dead Redemption 2Fall 2017, Spring 2018 (First Delay)October 2018~1 Year
GTA 5Spring 2013September 2013~4 Months
GTA Chinatown WarsWinter 2008March 2009~4 Months
GTA 4October 2007April 2008~6 Months

Personally, if we had to speculate, we’d guess that GTA 6 is most likely to release in either September-October 2025, a preferred release window for Rockstar Games.

In fact, over half of all GTA games have launched in October!

What’s more, that would fit the ~4-6 month delay trend that GTA games seem to be unable to kick – assuming GTA 6 was ever actually pegged for that March release.

However, nothing is official until it comes from Rockstar or Take-Two, so for now, we’ll have to wait and see! We’ll keep this article updated with all the latest delay leaks and rumors as they continue to arrive.
