Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2025, but which platform offers the optimal GTA 6 experience?

It won’t be long now until we arrive in Leonida and explore the new-and-improved Vice City in GTA 6.

However, only those on PS5 and Xbox Series X or S will be able to see what Rockstar Games has been developing over the last ten years – at least on launch day.

Whether you’re yet to upgrade to a current-gen console, or you’re considering purchasing one to make the wait for a PC port easier, here’s everything you need to know:

What’s the Best Console to Play GTA 6 On?

There shouldn’t be too much difference between the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of GTA 6, so either of the current-gen consoles are a great option for the upcoming game.

However, if rumors of a PS5 Pro announcement coming soon turn out to be correct, that will easily be the most powerful console on the market!

The leaked PS5 Pro specs certainly look impressive, but it’s worth noting that Rockstar Games might not have a Pro-specific patch ready on release day.

Therefore, there’s no evidence to suggest that a Pro model of PS5 would run the game any better than its predecessor – even if the open world would likely feel a little smoother and faster to load on the upgraded hardware.

If a PS5 Pro-specific patch does arrive for GTA 6, it may allow the game to run at a higher resolution or frame rate than the base console. If this is the case, the PS5 Pro will become the very best way to play Grand Theft Auto 6 on console, without a shadow of a doubt.

The Worst Console for GTA 6

Unsurprisingly, the worst console on which to play GTA 6 will be the Xbox Series S.

Microsoft’s budget console just isn’t as powerful as the Series X, and it’ll be even more noticeably behind when compared to a potential PS5 Pro.

However, it’s worth noting that GTA 6 was developed with the Series S in mind, and the downgrade may not be too noticeable during gameplay.

Fans of Xbox’s smaller, digital-only console can expect to experience Vice City at a lower resolution and potentially even a less stable frame rate.

However, GTA 6 will almost certainly still be more than playable at a comfortable 30 FPS on the device.

What About PC?

There’s no doubt in our mind that a PC port of GTA 6 will be better than its console counterparts, but there’s a problem.

For now, GTA 6’s PC port is yet to be officially confirmed.

Of course, one is definitely coming in the not-so-near future. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick even hinted at GTA 6 coming to PC in a recent interview, as if there was ever any doubt.

However, we don’t expect GTA 6 to arrive on PC until at least 2026. Before then, fans will have to play Rockstar’s open world title on console, or try to avoid spoilers for about a year.

The upside is, when GTA does finally arrive on the platform, it’ll likely look and play better than ever, with all the kinks from launch ironed out.
