With a game as heavily anticipated as GTA 6, there was no question that it would be the target of numerous April Fools’ Day pranks.

Don’t believe everything you see online, particularly when it comes to the first of April. Every year, the gaming community spends 24 hours getting tricked by false announcements, project ‘cancellations,’ and all manner of misinformation.

Thankfully, these could be the last GTA 6 April Fools’ jokes we see, as some fans think Grand Theft Auto 6 might release within the current Fiscal Year.

And no, that’s not an April Fools of our own!

GTA 6 April Fools Day Pranks

Here is a compilation of the best (or most annoying) GTA 6 pranks we’ve seen on April Fools’ Day 2024:

The GTA 6 Developer Copy

One Reddit user by the name of Emotional_Captain_14 claimed to have a developer copy of GTA 6 for localization testing purposes.

Upon booting up the file, the game initially displays some realistic-looking developer and video game license pages. However, it soon devolves into a low-quality slideshow displaying the words ‘April Fools.’

Interestingly, a new localization role did become available at Rockstar Games recently, but the testing job is completely on-site. This is likely to avoid real leaks like the fake one above.

Rockstar Games, Brought to You By X

Rockstar Games fan account videotechuk_ got in on the April Fools’ fun, by circulating an image of the developer being sold to X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter.

We can’t imagine a worse fate for one of the greatest game developers out there. Thankfully, this is nothing more than an April Fools’ prank… for now.

But that wasn’t all that the X user had to offer either.

Rockstar Games x CD Projekt RED

A supposed press release announcing a new partnership between Rockstar Games and CD Projekt RED was another April Fools’ prank by videotechuk_.

“Today, we are proud to announce that CD Projekt RED – the development studio behind Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher franchises will be developing a new IP published and financed directly from Rockstar Games,” the post reads.

The alleged new story-driven IP is by no means real, but a partnership between two of the best open-world developers of all time would certainly be something fans would like to see.

GTA 6 Delays

We’ve seen more than a few GTA 6 delay posts floating around social media today, but they might not be quite as inaccurate as we hope.

No, GTA 6 isn’t being delayed officially, and Rockstar Games is still reporting a 2025 release date for the highly-anticipated project.

But, as Kotaku recently reported, GTA 6’s launch likely no longer targets early 2025, and it could be pushed back even further.

However, as much as we think GTA 6 won’t be dropping anytime soon, don’t believe any delay news you see today.

Trailer 2 News

It’s been a long few months since the release of GTA 6’s debut trailer, but the wait for Trailer 2 has been even longer. That’s why it’s no surprise to see some would-be April Foolers try to get gamers excited for more footage of the upcoming release.

Unfortunately, there’s no news to report yet regarding GTA 6’s second trailer.

And while we think Trailer 2 will most likely arrive in November or December 2024, some fans have their hopes up for May, prior to Take-Two Interactive’s next earnings call.

We’ll keep you updated with the latest GTA 6 April Fools’ Day pranks as they continue to flood in.

Be sure not to believe everything you see online, at least for the next day or so!
