The West Indian Manatee, more specifically the subspecies Florida Manatee, is a large, sea creature that is native to the oceans around Leonida.
These aquatic mammals can be found in warm coastal areas, particularly in shallow waters, which makes Leonida (based on the real state of Florida) the perfect location for West Indian Manatees to live.
They can be found in both freshwater and saltwater environments. However, during winter months, they seek warmer water, making them particularly common along the Florida peninsula.
The West Indian Manatee is an endangered species, due to loss of habitat, pollution, and human activity, however conservation efforts have allowed their population to rise substantially since the 1970s.
The average West Indian Manatee can reach up to 11.5 ft in length and weigh up to 3,650 lb, with the females of the species generally being larger than the males.
